Edd Teach, known as Blackbeard ,is called the most famous and notorious pirate of history. Blackbeard had a braided beard tied with colored ribbons. To make his looks more frightning he would light cannon fuses dipped in lime water and tie them to his beard. The smoke and heat would make his face have a more intimidating flair.
Edward Teach was born in England in the 1680's, but it is said that he grew up in Bath, North Carolina. Reseachers think that Blackbeard also took refuge in the sounds of North Carolina in his days of pirating. Blackbeard got involved in pirating after Queen Anne's War against the Spanish. During the war the licensed men were allowed to attack the Spanish ships and take anything they wanted from them. After the war, some pirateerscouldn't stop, and they began to raid ships of all the nations, even England.
Blackbeard raided all over the Caribbean until the English sent their navy to stop the piracy. In 1718, Blackbeard sailed into the Pamlico Sound and surrendered to the North Caolina government. After he surrendered he had supposedly settled down. war
